Fishing Report - 29/9/2015

LESLIE DAM: Leslie Dam remains consistent, with some quality fish being landed over the school holidays.  There were plenty of Golden Perch landed over the 45cm mark, with the deeper water in the main basin proving the best.  Blades continue to be the lure of choice, as anglers are seeing good results in 20 to 30 feet of water.  We received reports of Golden perch being landed on trolled lures.  One local angler landed four Golden Perch on Saturday morning while using a green and gold Southern Cross Jackass.  There were also several Murray Cod landed over the past week, with most being around the 65cm mark.  One lucky angler managed to land a 78cm on a Jaz Aussie 200.  Spinnerbaits also accounted for a few smaller Murray Cod.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam remains fairly quiet, with not too many fish being landed.  There was also the odd fish landed on bait from the bank.  Things have been a bit quiet for the lure anglers. 

COOLMUNDA DAM: Murray Cod at Coolmunda Dam are very active at present, with several big fish being landed over the past week.  Spinnerbaits and big hard body lures are working well.  We received reports of plenty of Golden Perch being landed, with one Warwick angler landing seven Golden Perch on Friday morning on Squidgie Fish Soft Plastics.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The local river and creek systems have been the standout, with most anglers experiencing success.  Small profile lures have been working well in the town area, with one angler landing some big Golden Perch below Scots Weir.  There also fish landed in the Mill Hole and at Wheatvale.  Anglers fishing in the Killarney area also caught some nice fish.  Don’t forget that it is closed season for Murray Cod and these fish must be released.

 

LAKE COOLMUNDA FISHING CLASSIC

FISHING REPORT - 15/9/2015

LESLIE DAM: This week has seen a big improvement at Leslie, with anglers landing over 20 Golden Perch for the weekend.  There were several fish landed on a variety of lures.  Anglers had the best success on blades again as there are plenty of fish in the deeper water (around 30 feet).  Saltwater yabbies were also a good option over the weekend, with plenty of fish being landed on them.

GLENLYON DAM: Glenlyon Dam is also worth a look, with several Murray Cod being landed over the weekend.  Most of these fish were landed on trolled hard body lures, with yellow and black being the most successful colours.  One local angler managed to land a 72cm and a 64 cm.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The local river and creek systems are fishing well, with several legal sized Golden Perch being landed and also a few Murray Cod.  Don’t forget to release these fish as soon as possible as it is closed season.  There were some nice Golden Perch landed in various locations to the east of Warwick, with Canningvale and Killarney areas fishing the best.  Small lipless vibes and spinnerbaits were very successful.  Anglers also experienced success in the Pratten area, with one local angler landing 3 big Golden Perch on Saturday afternoon from his Kayak.  All of these fish were landed on bibbed diving lures.  We also received reports from Kings Creek, with some legal sized Golden Perch being landed over the past week.  One local Clifton angler managed 4 legal sized Golden Perch on saltwater yabbies.

FISHING REPORT - 8/9/2015

LESLIE DAM: Anglers at Leslie commented on things remaining much the same as previous weeks.  The water temperature is on the incline, which is certainly a positive step forward.  Anglers fishing off the eastern bank caught some nice Silver Perch and Catfish on worms.  Saltwater yabbies worked well in the main basin.  There were a few Golden Perch landed in the main basin while trolling hard body lures.  Kezza Mudmouse in purple and green proved to be quite successful.  There were also a few fish landed on metal baldes.  We received a report of a 68cm Murray Cod being landed on a frozen shrimp opposite the dam wall.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam remains fairly consistent, with anglers reporting of some nice fish being landed on bait.  Again, the water temperature is on the increase, which will make the fish become more active.

COOLMUNDA DAM: Coolmunda Dam fished reasonably well during the week, with the weekend being a little slower.  A local angler landed 7 legal sized Golden Perch on Sunday afternoon, while casting a TN60 Jackall in the deeper water.  Blades and mask vibes are still landing a few fish.

MOOGERAH DAM: Moogerah has been a little slow, with most of the fish being landed in the timber.  A local angler managed to land 3 legal sized Bass on Saturday morning on soft plastics.  Shrimps are also accounting for a few fish.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River fished well over the weekend, with some good numbers of Golden Perch being landed.  One local angler had success on Saturday afternoon in the Murrays Bridge area, landing 6 Golden Perch on bibless vibes.  Anglers are also picking up some fish just below the Scots Weir and around the Wallace Street Bridge.  The Condamine River around Wheatvale and Pratten has been fishing quite well, with several Golden Perch being caught.  One young local angler landed 10 Golden Perch on a hard body lure in the Pratten area.  Saltwater yabbies have also been working well on Golden Perch and Carp.

FRESHWATER CLOSED SEASON

Murray Cod

A spawning season closure applies to all Queensland waters contained in the Murray Darling Drainage Division from 1 September to 30 November.  An exception to this closed season applies to Beardmore Dam, Beehive Dam, Connolly Dam, Cooby Dam, Coolmunda Dam, Glenlyon Dam, Leslie Dam and Storm King Dam.

FISHING REPORT - 1/9/2015

LESLIE DAM: Leslie Dam has started to fire up, with some nice fish being landed over the weekend.  There were several Golden Perch landed as well a few Murray Cod.  One angler caught and released a beautiful 112cm Murray Cod from a kayak near the dam wall on a timber lure.  Blades, plastics, lipless crankbaits and hard body trolled lures worked well.  There were also a few fish landed on shrimps in the deeper water.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam anglers reported on a few more Golden Perch being landed over the past week.  These fish were landed in various spots around the dam.  Worms worked well, with one angler landing two Silver Perch and one Golden Perch off the eastern bank.

COOLMUNDA DAM: Coolmunda Dam is certainly worth a try, with several reports of quality Golden Perch as well as a legal sized Murray Cod being landed towards the narrow part of the dam.  Soft lipless vibes are still working quite well.  Shrimps and saltwater yabbies accounted for a few legal sized Golden Perch on Saturday afternoon in the deeper water in the main basin.

MAROON DAM: Anglers fishing Maroon landed some larger Bass on shrimps in the creek entrance as well as along the southern bank.  We received reports of a few Bass also being landed on surface lures.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: Anglers reported on the Condamine River being a little slower than previous weeks.  Anglers experienced some success in the Killarney area on spinnerbaits as well as larger hard body lures.  In the town area, anglers managed to land a few fish near the Wallace Street Bridge and below the Mill Hole.

Stradic FK Spinning Reel

Every couple of years it seems the Shimano technical people grab hold of the Stradic spin reel lineup and make a great reel even better. Well the 2016 reels continue that tradition — big time. Firstly, a reel of this standing couldn’t be without the new Hagane Body. This metal frame delivers high rigidity, so there’s no flexing when under load and no loss of cranking power either. This is complemented by the Hagane Gear system — not cut gear teeth, but 3D design cold forging for increased resilience and longer durability. The new Stradics have an additional SA-RB bearing and they’re all high 6:1 to 6.2:1 plus gear ratios, so cast lures will really motor on the retrieve. Aero Wrap II, the AR-C spool, One Piece Bail and G-Free Body all demonstrate that these reels are going to be are a repetitive caster’s delight to use, with better balance in the hand. While the new gen’ Stradics can be used just about anywhere, the presence of Coreprotect on the roller clutch, the drag, the body and the line roller, indicate that these reels are going to be perfectly at home in the world’s harshest environment — the salt.

FISHING REPORT - 25/8/2015

LESLIE DAM: Anglers at Leslie Dam had reasonable success over the weekend.  The bait anglers managed to land some quality fish on shrimps and saltwater yabbies.  There were some nice Golden Perch landed in the main basin, in approximately 30 feet of water.  There were a few fish landed by anglers trolling hard body lures along the Washpool bank.  Ecogear ZX Blades and Jackall Genes accounted for some nice fish in various spots around the dam.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam remains much the same as previous weeks, with reports of several Golden Perch and Silver Perch being landed over the weekend.  Bait anglers are having more success that the lure anglers at the moment.  This will change as the weather warms up.

COOLMUNDA DAM: There was some quality Golden Perch and Murray Cod landed over the past week.  Unfortunately you just had to be in the right spot at the right time.  Some anglers reported on landing in excess of 30 fish, while other couldn’t even raise a bite.  There was some quality Golden Perch, some measuring up to 55cm in length, on blades and mask vibes.  We also receive reports of Murray Cod being landed up to a metre in length.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The local river systems are improving, with some quality Golden Perch being landed in and around the town area.  Anglers fishing downstream of the Wallace Street Bridge have been landing some nice Golden Perch on bait.  Killarney, Murray Bridge and Pratten areas are also fishing quite well.  We received reports of two legal sized Murray Cod being landed during the week on spinnerbaits.

FISHING REPORT - 17/8/2015

LESLIE DAM: Leslie Dam anglers landed some quality Golden Perch over the weekend.  Numbers were a little down on the previous week.  Locals fishing the deeper water had success on saltwater yabbies in the main basin.  There were also a few big Silver Perch landed at the Washpool on worms.  Anglers trolling the narrower part of the dam, near the Black Boys, landed a few Golden Perch on smaller diving lures.  We also received reports on a 72cm Murray Cod being landed on a Imakatsu IK800 Hard Body while being trolled in the deeper water.

CONNOLLY DAM: There were a few more fish landed at Connolly over the past week, with the bait anglers seeing the best results.  Saltwater yabbies and worms worked very well.  There were several legal sized Golden Perch landed while fishing off the bank to the south of the dam wall in the deeper water.  We also received reports of a legal sized Murray Cod landed on a saltwater yabby.

COOLMUNDA DAM: The Golden Perch at Coolmunda were extremely active over the weekend, with anglers landing plenty quality fish.  These fish were landed on a variety of lures, with mask vibes, blades and soft plastics all working well.  There were also a few smaller Murray Cod landed over the weekend.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River around the Killarney area continues to fish well, with reports of some quality Golden Perch being landed on spinnerbaits.  There have also been a few legal sized Murray Cod landed on Stumpjumers.  Sandy Creek, to the west of Warwick, was a little slower this week with only a few fish reported.

FISHING REPORT - 11/8/2015

LESLIE DAM: There was some quality Golden Perch landed at Leslie Dam over the weekend.  Anglers trolling hard lures had a little more success than previous weeks.  These fish weren’t quite as deep as they have been.  Anglers trolling the eastern bank, from the Washpool to the boat ramps, landed some nice fish.  There was only a few Golden Perch landed on live and frozen bait.  We received reports of a fish being landed at Cod Alley, up near the Black Boys and near the Ski Club.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam anglers reported on things remaining much the same as previous weeks.  There were a few legal sized Golden Perch landed, with bait being the most successful.  Numbers weren’t great but the fish landed were quality fish.

COOLMUNDA DAM: Anglers have reported on some quality Golden Perch being landed at Coolmunda Dam over the weekend.  Some anglers had more success than others, with spinnerbaits and TN60 Jackalls proving to be the most successful.  Shrimps and saltwater yabbies accounted for some nice fish in the southern end of the dam.

MOOGERAH DAM / MAROON DAM: There was some good quality Bass landed in the main basin over the weekend.  There were a few fish landed on shrimps in the timber, with some quality fish landed on OSP Soft Plastics and Jackall Genes.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River continues to fish quite well, with reports of several legal sized Murray Cod landed.  These fish measured in excess of 70cm, with the majority of them falling to spinnerbaits.  The most successful spots were Killarney, Murrays Bridge, Canningvale, Pratten and several spots in the town area.

 Hot Bite Tail Spinners – JETS

Bass fishermen will have noted the rebirth of the tail-spinner over the past 6 months. These lures were used with great success on the early bass tournament scene but over the years their popularity dwindled.
