Fishing Report 17/5/2016

LESLIE DAM: Anglers have reported on plenty of fish on the move at Leslie Dam, mainly due to the beautiful weather conditions over the weekend.  The bait anglers had the most success, with some lovely Golden Perch being landed in various spots over the dam.  There were reports of some quality fish being landed from the bank north of the concrete boat ramps.  Frozen shrimps, saltwater yabbies and smaller crays worked the best for the bait anglers.  There were also some big Catfish landed on worms.  Blades seemed to be the lure of choice for the lure anglers, with some quality fish landed in the deeper water in the main basin.  One local angler managed to land four legal sized Golden Perch and an undersized Murray Cod on Sunday afternoon on an OSP Blade.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam continues to fish well with some quality fish being landed over the weekend.  One local angler reported on landing his bag limit of Golden Perch on shrimps and worms from the bank.  We also received reports of two legal sized Murray Cod being landed, with one local angler landing a lovely 67cm in the middle of the day on a saltwater yabby.  The other Cod was landed on a mask vibe.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River is in need of a fresh to clear off the duckweed, however it continues to produce a few nice fish.  We received a couple of reports of legal sized Murray Cod being landed on spinnerbaits around the Pratten area.  In the town area, there were some large Golden Perch on the Mill hole, with one fish weighing in just short of 7 pound.  The stretch of water between Scots Weir and OO Madsen Bridge also produced a few smaller Golden perch.

STORM KING DAM: Storm King continues to fish well, with anglers landing some quality fish over the past week.  There were plenty of Golden and Silver Perch on the move, with bait proving to be the most successful.

Fishing Report - 9/5/2016

LESLIE DAM: Golden Perch at Leslie Dam are still quite active, with several anglers having success over the past week and into the weekend.  Most fish are in the deeper water, with the main basin fishing quite well.  Local anglers trolling hard body lures around Cod Alley and the Black Boys also managed a few nice fish.  One family landed 6 legal sized Golden Perch on Sunday afternoon on a Southern Cross Jackass and a Little Ripper.  There are still plenty of catfish being landed on worms and some nice Golden Perch on frozen shrimps near the Ski Club.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam has also been fishing quite well, with some lovely Golden Perch being landed on both bait and lures.  One local angler fishing from his kayak managed to land several Golden Perch on TN60 Jackalls while casting the deeper water on the western side of the dam.  Worms accounted for some Silver Perch, with reports of smaller Cod on the move.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: With the warmer weather sticking around for a bit longer, the Golden Perch in the Condamine River are still fairly active.  One local angler landed 2 quality Golden Perch on Saturday morning upstream of the Mill hole on spinnerbaits.  Anglers are reporting of some large Carp being removed from the river just below the Bacon Factory.  Anglers fishing around the Pratten area also landed some nice Golden Perch.

STORM KING DAM: Storm King Dam is fishing well, with locals landing good numbers of Golden Perch over the past week or so.  Cray tails are working well and at the end of last week it wasn’t too hard to fill your bag limit.  We also received reports of a few smaller Murray Cod being landed on spinnerbaits.

PRODUCT REVIEW

Westin Swim 120

The Westin Swim is easy to cast and fish on a normal spinning rod as well as a light jerkbait set-up. It is a perfect long casting lure and it has a unique S-shaped swimming pattern. Try a fast retrieve in warmer water or a really slow retrieve when it is very cold. You can also try occasional spin stops and Westin Mini Swim can even be fished by twitching it or using small, gentle jerk movements.

It is a great lure when targeting Murray Cod.

Fishing Report - 3/5/2016

LESLIE DAM: Leslie Dam saw some good numbers of Golden Perch landed over the weekend, with the majority of the fish being landed on Sunday morning.  One Toowoomba angler caught and released over 20 Golden Perch in the main basin on ZX Blades.  Shrimps were also quite successful in the deeper water.  Anglers also reported on big numbers of Eel Tail Catfish being landed, with worms proving to be the most successful.  There were good numbers landed on the bank at the southern end of the main basin opposite the Washpool Camping Reserve.  Four anglers from Allora landed 15 Catfish, 4 Golden Perch and a handful of Silver Perch on Sunday afternoon.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam was a little quiet this week, with anglers landing the odd fish on bait.  Saltwater yabbies and small crays worked the best while fishing the weed edges, particularly towards the southern end of the dam.  One lucky Clifton angler landed a 72cm Murray Cod on a wood grub.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River saw a few legal sized Golden Perch landed over the long weekend, with several nice sized Golden Perch being landed in the town area.  Anglers had success at Scots Weir, below the High School and around the Wallace Street Bridge.  There were also a few under sized Murray Cod landed on spinnerbaits, with silver blades and white/red skirts being a successful combination.

MOOGERAH DAM / MAROON DAM: There were plenty of Bass landed at Moogerah over the weekend, with shrimps being the most successful.  The timbered area up towards the back of the dam was a spot that fished well.  We also received reports of fish being landed in the gorge and in the main basin on blades, plastics and ice-jigs.

Jackall Chibitarel

The Chibitarel is fast becoming a go to lure for Murray Cod and Barra fisherman. It’s natural swimming action and ability to turn backwards on itself when softly twitched is irresistible to big cod and barra in clear water situations where the fish get a good look at the lure.
Adding a chin weight can send the Chibitarel to any depth you wish. A high rod tip retrieve will have it waking the surface and a low tip will make it swim to up to a meter down.

Fishing Report 26/4/2016

LESLIE DAM: Leslie Dam was very quiet over the weekend due to the extremely windy weather conditions.  We didn’t receive too many reports of fish being landed towards the back end of the weekend.  Anglers had some success on Friday afternoon landing some nice Golden Perch.  Shrimps worked the best in the main basin.  There were some solid Golden Perch landed from the southern bank near the Washpool Camping Reserve.  Campers also managed to land some big catfish on worms.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam saw good numbers of fish being landed over the weekend, mainly from the bank.  Anglers had success towards the southern end of the dam on shrimps and crays.  Connolly is a great spot when the weather conditions are windy as you can find protection in one of the many coves around the dam.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River is a little slow at the moment, with not too many anglers having success.  We received reports of a few legal sized Golden Perch being landed from the pontoon near Tiddalik.  We also received reports of Golden Perch a smaller Murray Cod being landed in the Mill hole.  One local angler braved the windy conditions on Sunday and landed himself two nice Golsen Perch at Murrays Bridge on a Kezza Mudmouse.

MOOGERAH DAM / MAROON DAM: The boating traffic was quite heavy at both dams.  We received reports of a few fish being landed at Moogerah, mainly on lures.  There were also some nice Silver Perch landed over the weekend.

PRODUCT REVIEW

Jackall Gantarel

Crafted with an unequaled attention-to-detail and two durable joints, the segmented Jackall Gantarel creates an incredibly realistic bluegill imitation that will fool the largest and most seasoned fish. On either side, the Jackall Gantarel is molded with extended pectoral fins, which enhance stability and allow the lure to dive down to 3-feet with a smooth, S-shaped swimming action. Able to perform 180-degree turns with a sharp jerk, the Jackall Gantarel evokes reflex-driven reaction strikes from fish that may be interested, but not fully committed.

Constructed with a number of subtle, yet innovative features, the Jackall Gantarel is built with a swiveling line-tie that reduces line twists and a chin hanger that allows anglers to add weight for a slow-sinking presentation. At the rear, the Jackall Gantarel incorporates an eye molded into the tail, so anglers can attach an optional trailer hook. Fitted with two swiveling, feathered treble hooks, the Jackall Gantarel is a must-have for any fishery.

Fishing Report - 19/04/2016

LESLIE DAM: Leslie Dam has seen anglers land some reasonable numbers of Golden Perch on trolled hard body lures and bait.  The most successful spot was in between the Washpool Camping Reserve and the Black Boys.  One local angler landed four legal sized Golden Perch and a smaller Murray Cod on a Feral Cat Hard Body.  Purple, black and green were all popular and successful colours.  Anglers using bait in the main basin also saw a few legal sized Golden Perch.  Shrimps and saltwater yabbies accounted for the majority of these fish.  There were plenty of undersized Golden Perch landed on bait.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: Anglers are reporting that the Condamine River has been quieter than previous weeks.  We received reports of a few Golden Perch being landed at Murray Bridge on spinnerbaits.  Anglers reported on a few Golden Perch being landed just to the east of Killarney on shrimps and crays.  We also received reports from Emu Creek, with legal sized Golden Perch falling to spinnerbaits, with lighter colours working the best.  Anglers fishing from their kayaks around the bridge on the Pratten-Clifton Road managed to land a few Golden Perch.  Throwing spinnerbaits at the structure was a method that seemed to work the best.

MOOGERAH DAM / MAROON DAM: Anglers fishing Maroon over the weekend reported on some solid Bass being landed, some up to 46cm in length.  Most fish are holding tight in the weed, therefore casting soft plastics tight in the weed worked the best.  There were also as few Bass landed in the deeper water on blades, ice-jigs and tail spinners.  Moogerah is also worth a try, with some quality fish being landed over the weekend.  Most of the fish are holding in the deeper water in the main basin.  Fish are being landed on a variety of lures, with anglers using blades seeing the best results.

Fishing Report - 11/4/2016

LESLIE DAM: Leslie Dam fished reasonably well in the latter part of the week and into the weekend.  Frozen shrimp seems to be the best option for the bait anglers at the moment, with reports of several legal sized Golden Perch being landed.  Anglers landed fish in several sports around the dam, with a few solid fish coming from the deeper water around the main basin.  The lure anglers also landed some nice fish in the deeper water, with TN60 Jackalls and ZX40 Blades in darker colours landing some fish holding close to the bottom.  One local angler also landed four quality Golden Perch on Sunday morning on Beatlespins rigged on an OSP Shadtail.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River has been a little quiet this week.  Anglers are having some success but numbers haven’t been huge.  Anglers fishing the eastern side of Warwick landed legal sized Golden Perch over the weekend, with darker coloured spinnerbaits working the best in the town area.  Anglers fishing from their kayaks reported on a few Golden Perch being landed neat the Scots Weir and the Junabee Road Bridge on spinnerbaits.  We also received a report of Golden Perch and some large Carp being landed below the Bacon Factory.  Things remain a little slow in the Pratten area, with most Golden Perch being landed were of a smaller size.  Live crays and wood grubs accounted for these fish.

MOOGERAH DAM: Moogerah Dam remains fairly quiet, with only a few reports of fish being landed over the weekend.  There were a few nice fish landed on the ice jigs and plastics in the main basin.  Most of these fish were holding tight to the bottom.  There were also some solid Bass landed on Monday afternoon while fishing spinnerbaits along the weed edge.  Campers reported on some quality Golden Perch on shrimps in the timbered area.

Fishing Report 27/3/2016

LESLIE DAM: Most of our local impoundments were extremely busy with boating traffic over the Easter long weekend, with Leslie experiencing an influx of campers enjoying the break.  Anglers reported on landing some quality Golden Perch on Saturday morning, with the majority of these fish caught on bait towards the southern end of the main basin.  Frozen shrimps and saltwater yabbies accounted for most of the fish landed.  The lure anglers also had some success, with a few reports of fish being landed in the deeper water in the main basin.  There were some nice Golden Perch caught on Zman soft plastics.  These fish are holding tight to the bottom, so the anglers having success were locating them on their sounders.  Mask vibes, blades and Beatle Spins rigged on plastics all accounted for some nice fish.  Anglers trolling hard body lures didn’t have much success as most Golden Perch are holding tight to the bottom at present.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River in the town area is in need of a fresh as the duckweed is quite thick which is making the lure fishing a little hard at present.  There were plenty of anglers camping on the Condamine over the Easter long weekend.  Killarney anglers had some success, with a local angler reporting on landing two legal sized Murray Cod, one on a spinnerbait and the other on a Jackall Pompadour.  Anglers also landed some quality Golden Perch at Murrays Bridge on small crays and shrimps.  There were a few Golden Perch landed to the west of Warwick between Wheatvale and Pratten.  We received a few reports from anglers fishing from their kayaks landing some nice fish.  One local angler landed 3 Golden Perch and a 62cm Murray Cod on a red and white twin spin JMH Spinnerbait.

MOOGERAH DAM: Moogerah Dam was also very busy with boating traffic.  Anglers found it pretty tough over the extra long weekend.  However, we received reports of a few Bass being landed towards the back of the dam and in the timber.  Blades, spinnerbaits and Jackall Gene’s were the pick of the lures.  Anglers also landed the odd Golden Perch as well as a few Bass on live shrimps fished close to the weed banks.  Fishing at Moogerah should start to improve after the busy long weekend.
