Jackall Squirrel 61SP

The Squirrel jerkbait range has got every situation covered. The Jackall Squirrel has a plethora of diving depths and floating, suspending or sinking models, Squirrels also come in rattling and silent. Their tight wobble, combined with a stop-go retrieve, mimicks the action of an injured or frightened minnow shape baitfish.

Nasci Spinning Reel

Imagine taking some of the best features of Shimano’s legendary Symetre, Aernos and Technium spin reels, combining them into one super spin reel series with some high tech’ accoutrements — well that’s what you get with the new Nasci spin. There are five reels in the lineup, from the 1000 size for fine line finesse work in freshwater and the estuaries, right up to the saltwater standard 5000 with its generous braided line capacity and powerful gearing. All feature X-Ship, where the pinion gear is supported by bearings for better cranking power and torque, Coreprotect, which is a water repellent surface treatment on the line roller and clutch roller, and they all have G-Free bodies, so the centre of gravity is moved closer to the rod and the worm drive oscillates at a slower rate for more compact line lay. The big inclusion for a reel at this price point though, is the cold-forged Hagane Gear, where improved mesh transition leads to increased strength and durability. Gear ratios are pretty sharp too, at 5.0:1 for the 1000 and 2500 model, 6.2:1 for the 3000, 4000 and 5000 - all delivered via a machined aluminium handle.

Jackall Pompadour

The Jackall Pompadour is a no brainer of a surface lure. You can fish it as simply as cast and slow retrieve or twitching it under trees or above snags. The rattling internals imitate a cicada or chattering bird. The buzz blade on the rear is for insect and bubble attractant. The wings pull the whole scenario together with their freestyle action to form possibly the coolest action and noisiest topwater lure you’ll ever use. “Cod and Bass slayer from heaven”.

Fishing Report 1/8/2016

LESLIE DAM: Anglers fishing at Leslie Dam in the latter part of the week had reasonable success, landing some quality fish.  There was a lovely Murray Cod landed, measuring around the one metre mark, from the bank on a shrimp.  The Golden Perch were also a little more active, with several reports of legal sized fish being landed on bait.  Saltwater yabbies are proving to be the most successful bait at the moment.  The lure anglers had mixed reports, with some going home empty handed.  Blades and mask vibes seemed to work well when fished on the bottom.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam is till worth a try, with most anglers having some success.  We received several reports of legal sized Golden Perch as well as two reports of Murray Cod being landed, measuring around 70cm.  Anglers are seeing the best results using bait.

STRADIC Ci4 FB PINNING REELS

The totally re-vamped Stradic CI4+FB is a significant improvement over the previous range. Weight has been reduced by 5 grams or more, while other operational features have been improved to further reduce the feel of weight. This model has been developed around Shimano’s G-Free Body, where the oscillating system and worm drive have been moved closer to the stem of the reel. This lowers the reel’s centre of gravity and makes it feel lighter in the hand. To enhance the feeling of lightness and feather touch rotation, the new CI4+FB model comes with the latest Magnumlite rotor. The bail trip mechanism has been moved to the opposite side of the line roller, negating the need for a heavy bail hold support. Consequently, both sides of the rotor are now 22 per cent lighter , but the balance and rotation is improved with 22 per cent less inertia. The next upgrade was the inclusion of Coreprotect. Coreprotect is a protective water-repellent coating placed in the roller clutch and the line roller to prevent water entering these key areas. Finally, this series comes with Hagane Gear. Shimano’s cold forged gears are smoother, stronger and more durable than any others on the market. This gives the reel a much smoother gear transition, but also plenty of pulling power.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River saw a few fish being landed over the past with, with most reports coming from the eastern side of Warwick.  One local angler landed a 94cm Murray Cod and a couple of Golden Perch on crayfish.  There were a few more fish on the move, with legal size Golden Perch coming out of the Mill Hole and off the pontoon.  Bait anglers are having the most success.

MOOGERAH DAM: Moogerah saw a few nice bass being landed over the weekend.  Soft plastics are working the best in the deeper water in the main basin.  Darker coloured Paddletails fished on a ½ oz to 5/8 jighead slow rolled along the bottom seems to be a method that is working the best at the moment.

Jackall Chan Wake

Chan Wake can take a wild roll action or it’s able to retrieve as a buzz bait. While retrieving on the surface, the props on the back of the body makes a big draining sound and sprays like a small fish running away.  The Chan Wake can also be effective whilst twitching and jerking. Prop sound is ideal in murky water.

Fishing Report - 27/6/2016

LESLIE DAM: Anglers at Leslie Dam have been doing it a little tough, with note too many legal sized Golden Perch reported.  Bait seems to be the preferred option at the moment, with frozen shrimps and saltwater yabbies working the best.  There were a couple of legal sized Golden Perch landed from the bank between the concrete boat ramps and the wall.  The lure action has been fairly slow.Anglers hopping blades on the bottom are picking up the odd Golden Perch but overall Leslie Dam has been fairly quiet.

CONNOLLY DAM: Connolly Dam anglers are having a good time at the moment, with plenty of big Golden Perch being landed on frozen shrimps and saltwater yabbies.  Most of these fish are being landed just off the weed edge.  One lucky angler from Pratten landed a 64cm Murray Cod on a crayfish.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River is fairly dirty, right through to Pratten.  There haven’t been too many reports of fish being landed.  There were some landed around the Killarney area, where the water is starting to clear.  Most of these fish were landed on bait.

COPETON DAM: Located 30km Southwest of Inverell, Copeton is fishing extremely well at the moment, with Murray Cod in excess of 1 metre being landed on a regular basis.  The majority of these fish have been landed on surface.  If it is a big Murray Cod you are after, Copeton is the place to be at present.

Fishing Report 21/06/16

LESLIE DAM: Things were quiet over the weekend, mainly due to the poor weather condition.  Most fish were landed late last week and into Saturday.  Anglers reported on both local dams being slower than previous weeks.  Bait worked the best at Leslie Dam, with crayfish and saltwater yabbies accounting for a few legal sized Golden Perch.  We received reports of a few smaller Murray Cod on the move.  There weren’t too many reports of fish being landed on lures.  One local angler landed two legal sized Golden Perch on Friday afternoon while hopping mask vibes in the main basin.

CONNOLLY DAM: Anglers at Connolly Dam reported on things being much the same, with only the odd fish landed on lures.  Spinnerbaits and TN60 Jackalls have been the most successful lures over the past week or so.  Saltwater yabbies and worms also accounted for some reasonable Silver and Golden Perch.  These fish were landed off the bank.  Numbers haven’t been huge.

RIVERS AND CREEKS: The Condamine River was in desperate need of the fresh we received last weekend.  The fish will be on the bite once the water clarity clears.  Prior to the rain, anglers were landing some nice fish in the town area.  Saltwater yabbies accounted for a few legal sized Golden Perch just below Scots Weir.  We received reports of a 72cm Murray Cod being landed near Killarney.  This fish was landed on a Red and Black 3/8 JMH Spinnerbait.
